Suspect in Youngstown shooting in custody


A man wanted for a June 18 shooting at a South Avenue store is now in custody.

Tyrell Maiden, 24, was taken into custody at the police station about 10:30 p.m. Friday. He is wanted on two counts of felonious assault. He is now in the Mahoning County jail.

Police said Maiden, of Lucius Avenue, went into the store at 3211 South Ave. looking for another man he was arguing with and several shots were fired, wounding the 25-year-old store owner and a 12-year-old boy who was also there.

Police said the man Maiden was looking for, Levert Dent, 25, of Cook Avenue in Boardman, is not being charged in the shooting but is facing a count of carrying a concealed weapon for having a gun during the incident. Police are also searching for him.

Both men were indicted by a grand jury as well.
