NEWTON TOWNSHIP — The body of the adult son of a man, who died during a fishing trip, was recovered this morning.
The body was recovered at 8:25 a.m. today in a pond off Miller Graber Road, just east of Newton Falls, a Newton Falls emergency dispatcher confirmed.
The identities of the two victims are not being provided at this time.
The two went fishing Saturday with two juveniles telling law enforcement about 8 p.m. Saturday that there was a problem after they saw a pickup truck near Rankin Pond and a canoe part way in the water.
Dragging crews from four fire departments found the older man about 20 to 30 yards offshore about 7 p.m. Sunday. Search crews had to stop because of darkness.
The two men were father and son, likely from Mahoning County, with the father in his late 40s and the son about 20 years old, Mike Notovny, assistant chief of the Newton Falls Joint Fire District, said Sunday.
How the two drowned hasn’t been determined.
