Guardsman who killed 2, himself left suicide note

Published: Mon, July 14, 2014 @ 8:57 p.m.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say an Army National Guardsman left a suicide note in his northern Utah home before killing a college student and one other person early today, then fatally shooting himself at another home.

Logan Police Lt. Rod Peterson says 23-year-old Jared Tolman left a message saying he was sorry, and that what he was about to do was selfish.

Tolman kicked down the door of 19-year-old Mackenzie Madden’s apartment two blocks from Utah State University shortly after midnight.

Police say he then fired an assault rifle multiple times at Madden and a 25-year-old Johnathon Jacob Sadler, both people he knew.

Peterson says it’s unclear if Tolman knew beforehand that Sadler was in Madden’s home.

Tolman in the note imparted his belongings to his parents.

Investigators found the note today.

Before the crazy Combat Vet talk starts... Utah NG has already released that he was in a support position (laundry) and was never deployed. But let's just make the headlines on that he was in the Guard. :/

judimcbry, if they didn't put in the headline he was a guardsman, they wouldn't sell papers. Our media has just gotten completely out of hand.
