YOUNGSTOWN

Officials with the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown are sponsoring a bus trip to the Chautauqua Institute in New York state.

The bus will leave the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane, at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 4, and will return at 9 p.m. the same day. The price is $62 for members and $72 for nonmembers. This includes transportation, gate admission for the day and tip. Lunch and dinner will be on your own.

The lecture topic is about The Central Park Five. It focuses on five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem who were arrested and later convicted of raping a white woman in New York City’s famous park in 1989.

The Central Park Five tells the story of the crime, the rush to judgment by the police, a media clamoring for sensational stories and the five lives upended by the miscarriage of justice.

Speakers will be Sarah Burns, author of “The Central Park Five: A Chronicle of a City Wilding,” and David McMahon and Ken Burns, the producers, writers and directors of the documentary about the topic.

The lecture will be followed by a question-and- answer session. For information, contact Darlene Muller, 330-746-3250, ext. 106, or dmuller@jcc-youngstown.org. To register for the program, contact the bursar’s office, 330-746-3250, ext. 195.
