Authorities search pond for 2 missing Valley men

Published: Sun, July 13, 2014 @ 5:32 p.m.

NEWTON FALLS

Rescue operations have been ongoing since Saturday night at Rankin Pond near railroad tracks off of Miller Graber Road for two missing Mahoning County men.

Trumbull County 911 officials said they are not releasing the names of the missing men.

Two juveniles found a pickup truck and a canoe half in the pond Saturday night, setting off a search by personnel from the Newton Falls Joint Fire District and the dive teams from the Trumbull and Mahoning county sheriff’s offices.

A vehicle from the Trumbull County HazMat team also assisted.

About 5 p.m. Sunday, authorities called for additional assistance from firefighters from Lordstown, Champion and other departments to drag the pond.
