C.H. Campbell Elementary School has had a special volunteer helping to keep its courtyard and gardens beautified for the last 10 years. Doug Evans of Canfield has volunteered his time to the school out of the goodness of his heart and his love of landscaping and gardening.

Evans has been sharing his hobby with second-grade students at the school for several years. C.H. Campbell second-grade teacher Patti Mosure has organized this event with Evans, who has educated the children about caring for plants, for many years.

“With the very cold winter it has been hard and killed some plants,” said Evans, who is also an English tutor at Youngstown City Schools.

Evans brought in flint stone, granite, sandstone and lava and gave each student a stone to take home.
