Ham radio fest is Saturday in Austintown

The 20/9 Radio Club Hamfest, Tailgate, Electronics and Computer Show 2014 will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive. There is free admission.

The event will feature activities for ham-radio enthusiasts as well as the general public. There will be license testing starting at 8:30 a.m.; bring an ID, current license or CSCE if applicable. Testing for technicians only requires an ID. Cost for the testing is $15, payable during the event.

Prizes intended for the radio enthusiasts, or “ham only” prizes, include, for first- and second-place, dual band hand-held radios; for third- and fourth-place, $50 American Radio Relay League gift certificates; fifth- and sixth-place, $25 ARRL gift certificates; and seventh-place, a digital multi-meter. Prize tickets will be sold the day of the event, and the winner does not need to be present.

The club also will offer a 50-50 drawing and basket auction during the event.

Vendor spaces still are available for $5 per space, inside or outside.
