Borough of SNPJ, Pa.
The 33rd annual Slovenefest will be Friday through Sunday at the SNPJ Recreation Center.
Slovenefest, the largest Slovenian cultural festival in North America, features more than 20 Slovenian polka bands and button-box accordion clubs at five indoor and outdoor venues.
If you’re a Slovenian polka or waltz fan, Slovenefest is the place to be. A wide range of performers will offer an equally wide range of styles. The non-stop entertainment begins at noon each day and continues until midnight.
Aside from the traditional festival fare, Slovenefest vendors will offer barbecued lamb and pork and Slovenian specialties such as potica (nut roll) and klobase (Slovenian sausage), as well as Slovenian beer and wine.
Included in the admission fee is use of the Olympic-size pool, fishing lake, miniature golf, a trackless train, inflatables, playground equipment and organized activities for families and children. There also will be fireworks Saturday night.
Guests will be able to explore the culture of Slovenia through an extensive display of folk attire, crafts and household items featured in the SNPJ Slovenian Heritage Center museum.
Slovenefest guests include diplomats from Slovenia and families of Slovenian descent from as far away as California, Colorado, New Mexico, Florida and Canada.
The SNPJ Recreation Center is on Pa. Route 108. Admission is $10 each day; a three-day pass is available for $25 (free for age 16 and under). Parking is free.
