A 28-year-old city man faces felony charges of assault and illegal possession of a weapon.
Michael J. Pippins of Sanderson Avenue, who also was charged with resisting arrest, appeared Tuesday in Campbell Municipal Court.
His bond was set at $101,500, and his next hearing in court is July 18.
Police responded to the Sanderson residence shortly before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday after a 24-year-old resident told police Pippins had struck her in the head multiple times with a handgun and was still inside the home with the handgun and her children.
Officers noticed swelling and cuts to the woman’s face, head and left forearm, as well as cuts to Pippins’ right shoulder and left hand.
They took the handgun and bullets as evidence, later discovering that Pippins should not have a weapon because of his conviction on prior felonies, and arrested him.
Both the woman and Pippins were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
