Several arrested on drug charges over the weekend
Police arrested several people on drug charges over the weekend.
Just before midnight Sunday, Damon Cobbs, 19, of Youngstown was arrested on a charge of drug trafficking on Woodside Avenue after he was found inside a car that had a strong smell of marijuana inside. When police searched it, they found a Mason jar full of suspected marijuana, a digital scale, and $441 cash in Cobbs’ pockets, a report said. He was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
Just before 7 p.m. Saturday, police witnessed a crash at Hillman and Auburndale avenues and went to check on the drivers. The driver of one of the cars, Jerry Glenn Jr., 27, of Wesley Avenue, got out of his car, and as he did, he dropped a pill on the ground that he’d taken out of his pocket. His car also smelled heavily of marijuana, reports said. He was charged with possession of dangerous drugs.
About 4:55 p.m. Saturday, police pulled over a car in the 1600 block of Volney Road for making an improper turn and got permission to search it by the driver, 33-year-old Justin Magness of North James Street in East Palestine. Police found two bags of suspected crack cocaine in the glove compartment, reports said.
Magness was taken into custody on a charge of possession of cocaine.
Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, police pulled over a car driven by Marc Ellington, 31, of Youngstown at North Belle Vista Avenue and Cherry Hill after he failed to stop at a stop sign. Police discovered he had a suspended license, and they also found two small bags of suspected marijuana in the car and a bag of suspected crack cocaine, a report said. He was taken to the jail on charges of possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana.
