Mansfield no longer under fiscal emergency

Published: Tue, July 8, 2014 @ 9:15 a.m.

MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Officials in Mansfield are celebrating after the state removed the northern Ohio city from the list of those in fiscal emergency.

State Auditor Dave Yost was in Mansfield on Monday to tell officials that it has been removed from the list after nearly four years.

Yost urged caution, however, warning that financial projections for the city of about 47,000 residents are tenuous.

The Mansfield News Journal reports the state auditor’s office put Mansfield under fiscal watch in December 2009, when the city was looking at a deficit for that year of $2.9 million in its general fund. Fiscal emergency was instituted in August 2010.

The city’s school system, however, is still in a fiscal emergency.
