Boardman’s Keller wins junior golf event
Ken Keller of Boardman shot a 1-under 70 on Tuedsay to capture the boys 13-15 division of the Northern Ohio PGA Junior Golf event at Silver Lake Country Club.
Canfield’s Cole Christman finished third in the division with a 5-over 76. Also competing in the division were Alex Tambellini of East Liverpool (85) and Joey Vitali of Warren (95).
In the boys 16-19 division, Jacob Harrah of Newotn falls and Eric Rohrabaugh of Cortland both shot 80, five strokes off the winner’s pace.
Nicholas Braydich of Struthers shot 81, Isaac Davidson of East Liverpool 83 and Bryan Oatridge of Cortland and Nicholas Hough of Youngstown both were at 89.
YSU’s Perry sits in summer league win
Youngstown State graduate Kendrick Perry did not play in the Orlando Magic’s 87-69 summer league win against the Houston Rockets. Perry was one of just two players on the roster with a DNP-Coach’s Decision. The other was second-year player Victor Oladipo. Orlando’s 13 other summer league players played at least 90 seconds.
The Magic play the Memphis Grizzlies at 3 p.m. today.
Struthers seeks Hall of Fame nominees for ’14
Nominations for the 2014 class of the Struthers High Athletic Hall of Fame are being accepted until Aug. 1. Nomination forms can be found at the Struthers Board of Education office, Struthers High School, and on the Struthers Schools’ web site. Previous nominees must be resubmitted for consideration.
The 2014 inductees will be acknowledged at the Oct. 17 football game against Canfield. A banquet at The Embassy is planned for the following evening.

Hall of Famer Brown says title ring stolen
Browns Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown says his 1964 NFL championship ring being auctioned online was stolen from him. Brown’s ring is up for bidding on www.lelands.com until July 25. As of Monday, the highest bid was for $33,275. Brown tells cleveland.com that a claim by the auction company that he authenticated the ring is “a lie.” Brown says he was unaware the ring was being auctioned off.
Brown, who works as a Browns special adviser, says the ring was stolen from him more than 40 years ago.
Indians acquire OF Dickerson from Pirates
The Indians have acquired outfielder Chris Dickerson from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named or cash. Dickerson started in left field and batted ninth Monday night against the New York Yankees. To clear a roster spot, the club designated catcher George Kottaras for assignment. The 32-year-old Dickerson has appeared in 314 major league games over six seasons with four different teams.
Injured Encarnacion replaced by Seager
Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager got the phone call Monday he was hoping to get a day earlier. Seager was selected to replace injured Toronto first baseman Edwin Encarnacion on the American League’s roster for next week’s All-Star game.
Encarnacion, who has 26 home runs and 70 RBIs, was put on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a strained right quadriceps.
Kittel wins final UK stage of Tour de France
Marcel Kittel led a bunch sprint to win Monday’s Stage 3 of the Tour de France with a finish on the doorstep of Queen Elizabeth’s Buckingham Palace. The stage wrapped up the English debut to this 101st Tour edition. Riders hopped on planes and bid “au revoir” to the UK before flying across the English Channel onto the race’s home turf.
