New church

YOUNGSTOWN

Mercy Community Church will conduct services at 11 a.m. Sundays at Stambaugh Charter building, 2420 Donald Ave.

The Rev. Ron Thompson is founding pastor.

A Bible study will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

Movie planned

NEW WILMINGTON, PA.

“God’s Not Dead,” an international movie, will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday at New Life Baptist Church, 3414 state Route 208.

Book review

NEW WILMINGTON, PA.

Dr. Kang-Yup Na, associate professor of religion at Westminster College, recently had a book review published in “Biblical Interpretation.”

The review was of author Elim Hiu’s Regulations Concerning Tongues and Prophecy in 1 Corinthians 14.26-40: Relevance Beyond the Corinthian Church.

Na, who has been with Westminster since 1998, earned an undergraduate degree from Princeton University, master of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and doctorate from Emory University.

Guided labyrinth

CANFIELD

“On the Path to Growing” is the theme of a guided labyrinth walk planned at 6:30 p.m. July 15 at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road.

Walks generally take 20 minutes. The labyrinth is a ministry of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown and open year-round from dawn to dusk for all people of faiths. There is no cost to use the labyrinth, which is handicapped-accessible. Printed guides are provided at the entrance, which give suggestions for following the path.

Church tours

YOUNGSTOWN

St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., will participate in the Summer Festival of the Arts next weekend.

There will be a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and July 12.

Church tours will be conducted from noon to 3 p.m. July 12. The church was listed on the Historic Register in 2012.

St. John’s will have two services of Holy Eucharist on July 13. The 8 a.m. service will be Rite I, a traditional service of Holy Eucharist. The 10:30 service will use Rite II, a more contemporary form of worship.

At the festival, St. John’s also will be represented at a booth, where free postcards picturing the stained-glass windows depicting Youngstown’s steel mill heritage will be distributed.
