Comic show at Packard features Steranko

Staff report

All American Cards and Comics will bring the fifth annual All AmeriCon 5 comic book, toy and art show to Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW, on Sunday.

Comic-industry legend Jim Steranko and Green Lantern artist Darryl Banks will be the special guests.

“All AmeriCon has been building for five years, and this year, we needed a venue big enough to host it,” said Greg Bartholomew, founder of the event and owner of All American Cards and Comics shops in Boardman and Warren.

“The only complaint we have had about our convention from dealers and attendees was that prior venues were too crowded. Moving to the Packard Music Hall solves all that and gives us the needed room to expand.”

The move to Packard enabled the adding of Jim Steranko and Darryl Banks.

Steranko is known for his innovative art on Marvel Comics titles of the 1960s, where he co-created the Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD concept. As a conceptual artist for the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” film, Steranko helped design the iconic look of Indiana Jones.

Banks is the co-creator of the Kyle Rayner Green Lantern character and was the artist on the Green Lantern comic for most of the 1990s, creating new looks for many of that title’s stable of characters.

“We know this All AmeriCon will be the biggest one so far, with more than 70 retailer and artist tables,” said Randy Moy, manager of the Boardman All American Comics store.

“I expect attendance to be well over 700.”

Hours for All AmeriCon 5 will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission is $3 at the door.
