Fitch graduate Frank finishes 3rd at Ohio Open

Boardman resident Garrett Frank, an Austintown Fitch High School graduate, finished third in the Minute Men Ohio Open golf tournament at Westfield Country Club.

Frank took a two-stroke lead into Wednesday’s final round. He shot an even-par 70 to finish at -9, two strokes behind Lewis Center’s Tim Ailes and Cincinnati’s Kevin Hall. Both shot rounds of 4-under-par in the final round of the three-day event.

Girard’s Boo Timko, a Canfield High graduate who golfs for Ohio State, finished tied for eighth. Timko shot a 68 to finish at -6 with three other golfers.

North Lima’s Brandon Pluchinsky, a South Range High graduate, shot a 74 to tie for 49th place at +4.

Canfield’s Dominic Carano won the 18-20-year-old division of the Ohio Junior Public Golf Association’s state tournament at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course.

Carano edged Canton’s John Tidenburg by winning the first hole of a sudden-death playoff on Tuesday. Both finished with scores of 143.

Poland’s Jason McQuown tied for fourth with 147. Youngstown’s Steve Sveda shot a 148 to tie three others for seventh place.
