Gunpoint robbery on Michigan Avenue

Published: Wed, July 2, 2014 @ 9:22 a.m.

Two men told police they were robbed at gunpoint about 12:50 a.m. today on the corner of Michigan Avenue and the West Bound Service Road.

The men, a 22-year-old from Girard and a 24-year-old from Youngstown, told police they were returning from a bar when the two men, who they spotted earlier walking in the opposite direction, each pulled handguns and took their wallets and a cell phone belonging to one of the men.

Earlier reports said the robbery occurred at a home in the 800 block of Michigan Avenue, but the landlord there said that was the place where the victims called police from.

No one was injured.

The suspects fled west, away from the Youngstown State University campus, and remain still at large. St. Elizabeth Hospital Police were involved in a brief foot pursuit with the suspects but lost them in the rear yards west of Belmont Avenue, YSU police said.

This is a case in point. When these two thugs are apprehended, they should be given 20 years in prison with no chance of parole or time off for good behavior. Soon the message would get out, that if you are going to do these tyoe of things there is a very heavy price to pay.
