2 men robbed today near YSU campus

Published: Wed, July 2, 2014 @ 1:10 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Two men told police they were robbed at gunpoint about 12:50 a.m. today on the corner of Michigan Avenue and the West Bound Service Road on the North Side.

The men, a 22-year-old from Girard and a 24-year-old from Youngstown, told police they were returning from a bar when the two men, who they spotted earlier walking in the opposite direction, each pulled handguns and took their wallets and a cellphone belonging to one of the men. No one was injured, and the men fled away from the Youngstown State University campus.

St. Elizabeth Hospital police were involved in a brief foot pursuit with the suspects but lost them in the rear yards west of Belmont Avenue, YSU police said.

I love that Knightcap has 666 comments with this article! I agree. Those YSU students shouldn't have to fear for their safety. I had friends who lived over there 20 years ago, and it was never that bad.
