YOUNGSTOWN — A North Side home was destroyed by a fire that started about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, fire reports said.
Crews were called to a 361 Redondo Road home and found heavy smoke and fire and could not get inside because of the flames, reports said.
The homeowner, Richard Henderson, told firefighters he had left about 6 p.m. and just before he left he smelled something that seemed to be coming from the basement. Henderson said he disconnected several tools he was charging and checked his wood-burning stove before he left but found nothing out of the ordinary.
Two neighboring homes reported they had lost power briefly about 7:20 p.m., fire reports said, after a breaker was tripped.
Damage is listed at $65,000. The cause is under investigation.
