Woman charged with robbery at mall store

Staff report

Police arrested an 18-year-old woman from Stow after she was accused of robbery and theft from Southern Park Mall on Saturday.

Raelyn Wierzchowski is in the Mahoning County jail facing a second-degree felony-robbery charge and a first-degree misdemeanor-theft charge.

Police were called to the mall just after 2 p.m. Saturday on the report of a female fighting with security.

The head of security for the mall told police Wierzchowski stole a Pittsburgh Penguins sweater from Touchdown Gifts in the mall. She was followed by security after she left the store.

When approached by security, she hit the head of security in the chest, according to a police report.

Police searched her and found a Michael Kor’s keychain from Macy’s.

She admitted taking the items after she was placed under arrest.

Wierzchowski also was given a criminal-trespass warning for Southern Park Mall.

A court date is set for 8:30 a.m. today.
