Phantoms add Bradley

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Phantoms added forward Trey Bradley to their active 23-man roster from the North American Hockey League’s Wenatchee Wild.

The Phantoms sent forward Alex Rauter to Wenatchee as compensation.

Bradley, 17, was previously skating for the Phantoms as an affiliate player. By completing this trade with Wenatchee, the Phantoms are able to make him a full-time roster player immediately.

A native of Tampa, Fla., Bradley has scored five points in seven games for Youngstown this season. He recorded his first career USHL goal Saturday against Muskegon, exactly one week after registering a three-assist game against Team USA.

Rauter, originally acquired by Youngstown in a trade with Omaha earlier this year, had four points in 11 games as a Phantom.

Coaching search on hold for Browns

CLEVELAND

The Super Bowl is set. The Browns’ coaching search remains incomplete.

Cleveland’s plans to interview Denver offensive coordinator Adam Gase have been further delayed after the Broncos advanced to the Super Bowl.

Gase is believed to be high on the Browns’ list of candidates, and the team must now wait until after Denver’s Feb. 2 matchup against Seattle before they can meet with the 35-year-old.

The Browns, though, can have a second interview with Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. He was the first candidate interviewed by Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner. Quinn has presided over the NFL’s top defense this season and reportedly impressed the Browns during his initial interview.

Per NFL rules, if the Browns want to meet again with Quinn, they must do so before Jan. 26.

Shaun White headlines U.S. snowboard team

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif.

Shaun White is soaring to Sochi.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist in the halfpipe will get a chance at a rare three-peat — and then some — when the Winter Games begin next month in Russia.

White was named to the U.S. Olympic team in his signature event, earning one of the three automatic spots on the men’s team by winning Sunday’s final qualifier. White posted a score of 96.6 to edge a resurgent Danny Davis for his second victory in three days to cap a busy week.

The 27-year-old overcame an ugly crash during a slopestyle event Thursday to bounce back and clinch a spot on the inaugural slopestyle team. He was nearly flawless during the last two halfpipe events. As he did Friday, White nailed a frontside double-cork 1440 on Sunday, the hardest trick currently being done in competition.

Williams, Jones on U.S. bobsled team

Lauryn Williams, who capped her track career with a gold medal as part of the winning U.S. 4x100 relay team at the 2012 London Games, and Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones were among six women named to compete in the tandem sleds next month at Sochi, Russia.

Only eight previous Americans have competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
