Ohio killer executed with new lethal drug combo

LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A condemned Ohio inmate appeared to gasp several times and took more than 15 minutes to die Thursday as he was executed with a combination of drugs never before tried in the U.S.

Death row inmate Dennis McGuire made several loud snorting or snoring sounds during one of the longest executions since Ohio resumed capital punishment in 1999.

Ohio officials used intravenous doses of two drugs, the sedative midazolam and the painkiller hydromorphone, to put McGuire to death for the 1989 rape and fatal stabbing of a pregnant woman, Joy Stewart.

The state had adopted the new execution method after supplies of another execution drug dried up because the manufacturer put it off limits for capital punishment.

I wonder if the AP bothered to wonder how many times Joy Stewart gasped during her brutal ordeal and murder? (And since the AP focuses on it taking 15 minutes for him to die, they might also mention that the killer took on average 15 breaths per minute since his rape-murder of Ms Stewart, or, that the murderer breathed over 197,100,000 more times than Ms Steward was allowed the past 25 years.)

I'm sorry but I think the death penalty should be long and as painful as possible. They should be shown the same mercy they showed their victims.

These should be public events, much like concerts. Sell tickets. Let future low lives see their fate should they choose to be a poophead.

Yep, hang 'em in Central Square with a velvet rope that won't break their neck, ending the show before all of the future criminals have a chance to digest their potential fate.
