Free bottled water for East Palestine residents after system failure
By WILLIAM K. ALCORN
The lack of potable water here, caused by a breakdown of water pumps at the village’s two wells, will be resolved, but repair work is continuing today, said East Palestine Fire Chief Brett Todd.
As a result, a “boil order” remains in effect and residents are asked to conserve water and use only for emergencies.
Todd said the problem started during last week’s severe cold when water line breaks drained the two water tanks to low levels.
Then the pumps refilling the tanks failed at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday , leading to the “boil order” and conservation request, he said. Water department personnel and outside pump well specialists worked on the problem Saturday, but did not know when the pumps would be back on line.
Meanwhile, residents can get free bottled water at the Clark Street Fire station, courtesy of Salem Walmart, and non-potable water for flushing toilets beginning at 7 a.m. today, if you bring containers.
