For almost a decade, Boardman Park has been offering its Cookies for Santa event in the holiday season. This year’s event was offered Dec. 18 at the Lariccia Family Community Center.
“It’s a really great event for families to come and make their cookies for Santa,” said Karen McCallum, Recreation and Outdoor Education Specialist at Boardman Park. “It’s really nice for the families because they get to come and make a mess making cookies and they don’t need to worry about the clean up part of it. They can focus on spending time together as a family.”
Volunteers helped bake sugar cookies and, once cooled, families could decorate the cookies in a variety of ways, including different colors of icing, sprinkles and more.
The park offered several activities that families could participate in at the event, including making stamp sheets, ornaments, Christmas cards, decorations and more. There were also green Grinch waffles for the families to snack on.
It was the Ianazone family’s second year participating in the Cookies for Santa event.
“It’s a great event for the kids,” said Michelle Ianazone. “Their dad really likes the cookies, too.”
In addition to the park’s popular Christmas light displays, the park also offered several other holiday-themed events for families to utilize, including Supper with Santa and more.
