AMS to host robotics tournament

On Jan. 11, Austintown Middle School will be hosting the FIRST LEGO League’s District Tournament from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The event will be free and open to the public beginning at noon. Opening Ceremonies and Robot matches will begin at 1 p.m.

FIRST LEGO League is a robotics program that is designed to get children excited about science and technology while teaching important life skills, such as team-work, communication and work ethic.

This tournament takes the top teams of students ages 9-14 from Ohio’s Northeast region and challenges them with the Nature’s Fury. These teams must discover ways that they can help people, using robotics, during different types of natural disasters.

The winners of this tournament will advance to the FLL Ohio State Tournament on Feb. 8 and 9 in the Ervin J. Nutter Center of Wright State University in Dayton.
