Home Savings deactivates cards compromised at Target

Staff report

Home Savings said Wednesday that it deactivated debit cards that potentially were compromised by fraud resulting from the holiday season’s Target stores data breach.

The bank said it had experienced a “high volume” of fraud over the past few days and decided to send out new cards and PIN numbers to customers who were at risk.

The move came as a surprise to some customers, who did not know why their cards did not work Wednesday, but a Home Savings representative said the bank notified affected customers when the accounts were deactivated.

There was a notice posted on the home page of the Home Savings website Wednesday afternoon that said new cards had been mailed and should be delivered by the end of the week.

A call center was open until 7 p.m. Wednesday. Customers needing immediate assistance were instructed to call 330-781-6519.
