The severe cold weather created several issues – including a power outage at our Austintown warehouse and frozen trucks – that impacted delivery for some Vindicator customers on Tuesday.
Despite having the engine block heaters plugged in all day and night, half of the fleet of trucks would not start. The remaining trucks had to make double runs to get all circulation areas covered, which made some deliveries to carriers late.
Many carriers had car problems as well, so substitute carriers and district managers delivered routes with which they were unfamiliar. This caused some papers to be delivered as late as Tuesday afternoon or missed entirely.
Hardest hit were customers in Austintown, Canfield and the West Side of Youngstown.
The Vindicator circulation department worked hard to get newspapers delivered to all customers, said General Manager Mark Brown.
“The Vindicator apologizes for the delivery delays. We have immense gratitude for the patience of our customers and the perseverance of our delivery team. They made sure the vast majority of newspapers were delivered on time despite the extreme cold,” Brown said.
If you do not have your newspaper today, we apologize and ask you to call 330-746-6561.
