Vigil planned tonight for 2 Ohio teens slain in shooting

Published: Fri, January 3, 2014 @ 1:48 p.m.

BARBERTON, Ohio (AP) — A vigil is planned in a northeast Ohio community where a shooting killed two teenagers and wounded their father and father’s girlfriend during an apparent robbery on New Year’s Eve.

Meanwhile, police in Barberton, a small city near Akron, say they have few leads and no suspects in the Tuesday night shooting that killed 18-year-old Ashley Carpenter and 14-year-old David Kohler-Carpenter.

The shooting happened at the home of their father, John Kohler, who police said is in critical condition at a hospital. His girlfriend, Ronda Blankenship, was shot in the head and was also in critical condition.

Police tell WEWS-TV that the family was likely targeted for a robbery, but a spokeswoman wouldn’t go into details.

A vigil is planned for 8 tonight at Lake Anna in Barberton.
