Just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday, township police arrested an 18-year-old Youngstown man for possession of prescription medication.
Desmond McElroy of Chapel Hill Drive is charged with two counts of drug abuse. One count is labeled as a fifth-degree felony and the other a first-degree misdemeanor.
Police stopped McElroy on Market Street because of a license suspension on the vehicle’s owner.
Police say McElroy told police he knew of his mother’s suspension, but still drove the car because he had a valid license.
He was not able to produce proof of insurance when police asked, however.
Police began to complete an inventory of the vehicle to prepare it for impound. McElroy and his passengers where escorted to wait in the cruiser.
Inside the vehicle, police found two pills inside a cigarette case in the car. One pill was identified as Endocet and the other as hydrocodone.
A 17-year-old passenger in the vehicle was given a citation for unruly juvenile for curfew violation.
McElroy was taken to Mahoning County Jail.
He was scheduled to appear Thursday evening for arraignment in area court here.
