BREAKING NEWS | YSU trustees authorize new prez search

Published: Wed, February 26, 2014 @ 8:08 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University trustees authorized an agreement with AGB Search today to conduct a presidential search. The firm won't charge a fee for the service.

The university is seeking a new president after Randy Dunn was tapped and accepted the presidency at Southern Illinois University. Several prominent Mahoning Valley businessmen, lawmakers and local commissioners are lobbying the trustees to name Jim Tressel, former YSU and Ohio State University head football coach, YSU's ninth president.

Dr. Sudershan Garg, trustees chairman, said trustees don't plan on appointing an interim president initially because Ikram Khawaja, provost and vice president for academic affairs, is overseas until March 15. Under the university's succession plan, the provost is second in line behind the president, with the vice president for finance and administration, at the No. 3 spot.

The vice president for finance and administration left last week for another job. Dr. Garg, however, said trustees would not be upset to see Dunn leave before his stated resignation date of Aug. 16.

So, does he get paid until "he decides to leave"? In essence, the Board is hoping for him to leave sooner so that the stench doesn't linger on throughout the campus like a skunk in the road.

The YSU Provost is "overseas" during this crisis; the YSU VP for Finance is gone; the dead duck YSU Prez in being lavishly paid (for doing nothing) until mid-August; and the YSU BOT "would not be upset" to see him go before then. Well, the taxpayer is very upset, and so should everyone in our community at the imported aristocrats running YSU (into the ground). Is this theater at YSU a farce, comedy or tragedy?

No problem, raise tuition and fees and demand more concessions from the workers. Problem solved.

The BOT is getting the message from alum and supporters that no more money will be donated until the pest in the mansion on Wick is shown the door. He resigned. He needs to go.

They should cut out paying the travel expenses for the applicants. If you want an interview, it is your responsibility to get there, not the taxpayers.
