YOUNGSTOWN — Police found an 89-year-old woman afraid in her South Maryland Avenue home today, her bedroom door duct-taped shut, after a man broke in.
Officers arrived at the home to investigate about 11:30 a.m. and found the door open and broken glass on the porch. They entered the home, calling for anyone inside to come out. They found a cord tied around the door of one of the bedrooms and duct tape around the door. When they called out again, they heard the woman inside yelling.
They found her in bed. She told officers a man came into her home about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, saying he needed money. She told him there was a little in the kitchen. Police said the home may have been ransacked. The woman was transported to the hospital.
