Fire destroys house
A fire Monday at a 1414 Lansdowne Blvd. home on the East Side caused $5,600 in damage.
Crews were called about 6:30 p.m. and found a fully involved fire in the back of the house which then spread to the roof, which quickly burned down, reports said. Also, a nearby hydrant was frozen, reports said. The home, which was vacant, was a total loss. Reports said a cause could not be determined.
Police are looking for a man about 6 feet tall, 200 pounds and 30 years of age who attacked a Rex Boulevard Northwest woman with a box cutter at her house Friday afternoon.
The 50-year-old woman said the man came to her door at 1:50 p.m. saying he was looking for “Lawanda.” When she said she didn’t know who that was, the man became angry and pushed her on the floor, then used a box-cutter to cut her arm, stomach and chin.
She said the man fled when she kicked him in the groin.
The woman was treated by ambulance personnel for one severe cut and some minor cuts and taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
The suspect was wearing a red parka-type coat with a hood, and he had a slight beard.
