Youngstown declares snow emergency

YOUNGSTOWN

Charles T. Shasho, deputy director of public works, has declared a snow emergency effective immediately until further notice.

During a snow emergency, parking is prohibited on all streets except those streets or alleys that have a width of 25 feet or less, providing no driveway facilities. Any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance will be subject to removal by towing at the owner’s expense. A snow emergency occurs when there is snow accumulation of four inches or more.

Well, it's nice to see that it doesn't matter who might be the mayor of Youngstown, the streets still don't get plowed. They can call a snow emergency all day long. For all of the talk about economic development and the recent editorial about poverty in Youngstown, how in the hell does the mayor and the street department expect working people to get to work when they don't plow the streets? My pal in Austintown lives on a side street and already has had his street plowed twice, that was before noon today. So, someone please tell me just what on earth is going on down there at the street department?!

'Any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance will be subject to removal by towing at the owner’s expense'

This is total BS. I have neighbors that have had 2 cars parked in the street all winter long through several of these emergencies. One is always directly across from my driveway on Outlook Avenue. The city has been called on more than one occasion and they do nothing.

What is the point of announcing this emergency if they do not enforce it?

TOTAL BS.
