Tiberio leads Spartans to tournament victory

Boardman High bowler Jon Tiberio rolled a three-game 668 to help lead the Spartans to victory in Sunday’s Division I bowling tournament at Mahoning Valley Lanes/

Boardman edged Canfield, 4,179 to 4,159, to win the event. Niles finished third with 3,937, followed by Hudson, 3,888. Austintown Fitch was fifth with 3,881.

Boardman, Canfield and Niles advance to the district tournament.

In the girls tournament, Katie Viglio, Lynnette Seebacher and Jessica Halas finished in the top three to help the Falcons edge Kent Roosevelt, 4,051 to 3,707.

Stow-Munroe Falls was third with 3,641, followed by Warren Harding with 3,468 and Boardman with 3,379.

Fitch, Kent and Stow advance to the district tournament.

In the boys tournament, Tyler Frklech was second with 664, followed by Boardman’s Jake Wagner with 650.

Hudson’s Logan Booth was fourth at 634, nine pins better than Howland’s Mardaway.

Rounding out the top 10 were Howland’s John LaVange (624), Harding’s Tyler Longwell (612), Harding’s Tommy Seese (609), Fitch’s Matt Cox (608) and Stow’s Mike Edwards (600).

Booth, Hardaway and LaVange advance as individuals.

Vigilio rolled a 644, two more than Seebacher. Halas had 632, five pins better than Stow’s Julie Nolte. Kent’s Melanie Denning was fifth with 605.

Rounding out the top 10 were Fitch’s Brittany Veltri with 589, Harding’s Brianna Nolen with 579, Fitch’s Laura Wilson with 566, Canfield’s Elena Merhaut with 563 and Kent’s Kaitlyn Jastromb with 553.

Nolen, Merhaut and Hudson’s Angela Piazza advance as individuals.
