Liberty trustees to vote on tax break

The Liberty Township trustees will vote on a tax break for a Comfort Suites hotel that will be built on Belmont Avenue.

The trustees will talk about the abatement and vote at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the township administration building on Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Perni & Perni Equities LLC of Hubbard will build the 90-unit hotel across the street from the Station Square restaurant.

The developer wants a 49 percent tax abatement. The abatement already has been approved by the county and is pending before the state, said township Administrator Pat Ungaro. Half the taxes from the project will go to the school district and the other half to the township’s general fund, he said.

The state is involved because the hotel is in a Community Reinvestment Area, a state program that allows a developer to apply for an abatement, said Ungaro.

The program encourages development in areas that lack it.

Ungaro said the development won’t begin until the state gives the approval.

He said the hotel is the first new project in the CRA.

He said there also will be property in front of the development that will be suitable for businesses.
