Kasich talks tax cuts and criticizes materialism

Published: Thu, February 6, 2014 @ 2:13 p.m.

COLUMBUS (AP) — Gov. John Kasich is stressing the need to cut Ohioans’ taxes while maintaining that money does not buy happiness.

The first-term Republican made the comments today in wide-ranging remarks at the Ohio Newspaper Association’s convention in Columbus.

Kasich, who is up for re-election in November, said that reducing taxes was not just “some campaign deal.”

He said any tax cuts had to be a balance of achieving economic growth and ensuring the state has what it needs to function.

The governor emphasized that he didn’t see anything wrong with accumulating wealth, but he said he firmly opposes materialism.

Kasich, 61, also told the industry group that he is writing another book. And the former Fox News commentator says he would eventually like to return to the media.

Just be careful and don't rejoice about tax cuts until the whole story is known. It often becomes a shell game where the revenue source is merely shifted from one point to another. Some win while others loose.

It is very rare to see a governmental agency reduce it's need for revenue and hence offer real tax reductions.

Income taxes. Let's see what happens to your property taxes like the other states who don't have income taxes. Let's see what happens to all the cities who depend on state money to function.

this guy has been a jack ass since taking office in 2011. You think his tax elimination will work? Same people who love his "plan" will be the SAME ones yipping when monies are shifted, or services are cut.

Hilarious. A republican rich guy telling everyone else that materialism is bad. Just goes to show how clueless Kasich is to anyone making less than $250k salary a year. And his tax cut is exactly what he says it isn't. A campaign ploy. JobsOhio needs opened to public scrutiny. Everything else Kasich says is a distraction.

Repubs are about as in touch with the middle and lower class as McDonalds were when they informed their employees how much they should tip/gift their pool boys.

I like stories like this because they reveal the class envy warriors.

it also shows those who have no sympathy for the poor Joe. When a lot of people are out of work because of rich people's policies, I tend to feel bad for them. People who want to work but can't find a decent job to support their family. It is not so much being envious of the rich.

The people and corporations that pay "zero" taxes do so legally.

No one is obligated to pay more in tax than they are legally required to pay.

Some folks are simply jealous of those who have the ability to reduce their tax to a very low rate.

Jealous? DAMN SKIPPY I am jealous that multi BILLION DOLLAR companies pay no taxes, while I, the average Joe has to pay much more. If you think that is fair, that you are delusional.
