Black nurses group promotes profession

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown-Warren Black Nurses Association is observing National Black Nurses Day on Friday.

The organization meets at 5 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will take place Tuesday at the Newport Library on Market Street.

All nurses, including practical and registered nurses and nursing students, are welcome to join. Newly elected officers are Carol Smith, president; Susan Dugan, vice president; Sandra Abrams, secretary; Elaine Wilson, correspondence secretary; Gwendolyn Montgomery, financial secretary; Olla L. Tate, treasurer; and Ruth Rhodes, parliamentarian.

The group’s main purpose is to encourage black people to become nurses and help improve the health of all people. It has awarded many nursing scholarships.
