NEWTON FALLS police Chief: Fill-A-Cruiser was a huge success

Staff report

Saturday’s Fill-A-Cruiser event was met with overwhelming support from the Newton Falls community, according to Gene Fixler, chief of the Newton Falls Police Department, sponsor of the event.

Six officers donating their time were stationed at Shop and Save on Ridge Road and at the IGA on Milton Boulevard, where more than 100 bags with multiple food items were donated, along with toys and cash, Fixler said.

The event was so successful that a truck had to be brought in to move the goods as the police cars were getting filled quickly, the chief reported.

All of the food products collected were given to The Church Mouse, a community cupboard that helps the needy year-round; it’s located in downtown Newton Falls on West Broad Street. The cash and toys donated will be turned over to the Fraternal Order of Police, which facilitates the annual Shop with a Cop event, Fixler said.

“This was a huge success, and shows how the people of Newton Falls are just the greatest,” Fixler added.
