BREAKING NEWS | Struthers mayor fires detective

Published: Thu, August 21, 2014 @ 3:15 p.m.

STRUTHERS — Mayor Terry Stocker today fired a city police detective accused of misconduct.

Ray Greenwood, who has been on the force in several capacities since he began as a reserve officer in 1996, was fired because of an incident restraining a woman running toward a fire on May 26.

The woman claimed that Greenwood assaulted her.

In his termination letter, Stocker wrote that Greenwood is held to a higher standard because he is a police officer. The mayor also wrote that because of “the gravity surrounding untruthfulness in a police officer and the act of insubordination, as well as the multiple instances of behavior unbecoming a city police officer and the impact those behaviors have on your ability to effectively function as a police officer, there is no alternative” than termination.

Greenwood, who has been on leave since the incident, has denied any wrongdoing. He does have the right to appeal.

The earlier story was all about how great a cop this guy is. Now the mayor has this big long list of wrong doing. Do you suppose the insubordination and other conduct came AFTER the witch hunt began?
What does this unable to follow directions woman have on the mayor that this happened?

The earlier story clearly demonstrated that the officer performed his duty quite well when preventing a panicked woman from entering an active fire scene. Insubordination, also known as failure to kiss the politician's behind, was all they could come up with. At the most maybe a short suspension. But to fire him? Struthers is turning into a joke in this county and Mayor Stocker is firmly at the helm of this sinking ship.

Since the Vindicator just wants to stir the pot and focus on one case. What a joke of a publication.

This fellow indeed appears to have some issues.

However, not following a cops directives in the street is an invitation to trouble.

If you think the police were wrong, settle it in court.

The Mayor does whatever he wants. They hire who they want even though they were not eligible to even sit for their own civil service exam. Then when the issue brought up to Atty. Delost when he was on the Civil Service Board, things get lost or overlooked. The Federal Government should step in and stop their corruption, cronyism and nepotism. The evidence is there plain as day. Both Ofc. Lewis and Ofc. Trulio were beyond the age limits (35) to take their civil service exam, but both were hired Full-Time consecutively, blantant violation of their own policy, but the Mayor will do what he does, and that is enforce the policy when it suits his personal agenda.
