CLEVELAND

An Ohio man accused of setting a cat on fire has pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges.

Police arrested 26-year-old D’erise Carson on Thursday in Cleveland. He is accused of slamming a cat into the ground repeatedly and then setting it on fire with lighter fluid earlier this year.

The cat died from its injuries, and police issued a warrant for Carson’s arrest.

Carson pleaded not guilty Friday to four misdemeanor counts of cruelty against companion animals. No attorney is listed for him in court records.

A pretrial hearing for Carson is scheduled scheduled Aug. 27.

Carson’s arrest follows another Northeast Ohio animal-cruelty case.

On Wednesday, Akron police arrested a man for kicking a stray cat into the air. Videos of that went viral on the Internet.

Why this state refuses to make animal cruelty charges a felony is beyond me.
Anyone capable of such cruelty is a danger to society and capable of anything.

These sick scumbags will get a slap on the wrist, pay a petty fine and will be free to harm and kill more innocent creatures.
Today a cat or a dog tommorow a child or another defenseless victim.

These subhumans have no sense of right and wrong,no sense of compassion or humanity.
They prey on the trusting and weak who can't fight back to defend themselves.
Lock these misfits up and keep them away from civil society !!

And please folks write your state reps demanding a change in the law.
There's nothing petty or minor about cruelty to animals
Most serial killers start out by harming and killing animals
