ROC 5K race will be in Salem

The annual Race for the ROC 5K Obstacle Race will take place Aug. 16 at Waterworth Memorial Park, Superior Avenue.

Registrations will be taken online through Aug. 15. Participants who register before Aug. 11 will receive a T-shirt.

Challenges this year will include a mud crawl, hay bales, over and under staggered logs, a mud pit, tires in and outs, a tunnel crawl, slip n’ slide and tangled ropes. Two new obstacles will be unveiled on race day.

Registration will be available on race day for $50 per individual or $45 as a team member. A last minute code at checkout will provide $15 off.

There also will be a Family Fun Run after the 5K race at a cost of $10 per person or $30 per family with up to 5 runners. T-shirts are not available for the Fun Run registration.

Medals will be given to the top three winners in each division of the 5K. Age groups for male and female are under 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 and up.

The money raised from this event will benefit ROC of Salem Youth Center, which serves youth ages 10 to 20.

The center is open three nights a week, and activities include Bible studies, basketball, volleyball, pool, ping pong, foosball, air hockey and Wii.
