Double homicide on East Side is probed

Published: Fri, August 8, 2014 @ 12:05 a.m.

Staff report

Youngstown police officers were gathering evidence from inside a car where one of the victims of a Thursday night double homicide was shot.

The other person was killed on the sidewalk, according to Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV.

Police were called about 9 p.m. to Rockford Village Apartments on the city’s East Side.

A large crowd, including children, toddlers and babies, assembled outside the homes to watch the activity.

One woman said she knew one of the victims, who she said was in his early 20s. She declined to provide her name, but said the dead man was the son of her boyfriend. Her boyfriend had gone to grieve with his family.

The body of one of the victims remained inside the car, although authorities draped a sheet over the vehicle to shield it from onlookers.

Crime-scene tape roped off Dogwood and Rosewood lanes and Willow Court inside the public-housing project.
