City man faces drug charges

Published: Thu, August 7, 2014 @ 11:32 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Police reports said a man ran from officers after they asked to search him during a drug investigation about 4 p.m. Wednesday on the South Side.

An officer was flagged down by a citizen who said a pair of men were selling drugs at the corner of Overland and Breaden avenues. When the officer arrived, he found two men sitting in lawn chairs across the street from a store, reports said.

The officer approached the two men and asked if he could search one, Alex Mitchell, 27, of Youngstown. Mitchell instead ran away and threw something out of his pockets before he was caught on the side of the store.

Reports said officers found a bag of suspected crack cocaine, a bag of suspected marijuana and a digital scale. Mitchell was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana.

He was taken to Mahoning County jail. Reports do not say if anything happened to the other man.

The other man probably got up and walked away during the chase. He played it cool so that he could just vanish. He probably had the opiates.
