No one steps forward to challenge Judge Sweeney

Published: Fri, August 1, 2014 @ 5:11 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Democratic Party will not field a candidate against Judge Maureen Sweeney of common pleas court as no one stepped forward to replace Mark Hanni on the ballot.

Party Chairman David Betras had given applicants until 5 p.m. today to submit letters of interest for the seat. He received none.

“I didn’t think anyone would,” Betras said. “Incumbent judges seem to always win unless their opponent can spend a lot of money.”

Hanni withdrew from the race July 25.

No Democrat challenger?? Doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Sweeney gave a 65,000 year court job to Dave's brother-in-law??

Yes, "set 'em loose Sweeney" survives!! Too bad that Stacy Cetera , the Canfield teacher, did not!!! She set her stalker loose and he killed her!!! Remember that, Judge Sweeney? Or do you have some judicial mumbo jumbo to explain that decision away? So, she will continue to proceed as usual. Heaven help the next one in front of her with a stalker!!! She is a disgrace to the bench!!!
