Ohio man faces murder charge in baby's death

CINCINNATI (AP) — A southwest Ohio man is expected in court again to face an upgraded charge of aggravated murder in the death this week of his 3-month-old daughter.

Cincinnati police added the charge of aggravated murder against 24-year-old Shavale Johnson after an autopsy report on Tuesday ruled the baby’s death a homicide.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Johnson is accused of hitting the baby, Asia Cathey, in the face with a closed fist “in a fit of frustration” on Monday night, according to police.

The autopsy said the child died from head trauma, but it hasn’t been determined whether the baby was hit multiple times, shaken or a combination of both.

Jail records for Johnson didn’t indicate if he had an attorney. Johnson’s sister said Tuesday he didn’t hit the child.
