Boardman woman charged with passing bad checks

Published: Tue, April 29, 2014 @ 10:40 a.m.

BOARDMAN — Police arrested a 21-year-old township woman on a charge of passing bad checks.

Daniecia Turner of Red Fox Drive is accused of cashing a payroll check twice. Turner worked at the Dunkin Donuts on East Western Reserve Road until Sept. 22, 2013.

The ex-company employee cashed the $388.30 check on Sept. 9, 2013, and once again on March 12, according to a police report.

Turner was released on a summons after she completed the booking process Monday at the Boardman Police Department. She has a pretrial hearing scheduled at 5 p.m. May 15 in Mahoning County Area Court here.

This is the same woman charged with domestic violence against her son's father just last year. What a piece of work.

Question is...how did she even have the check? If she cashed it back in 2013, then the cashier should've kept that check. Instead they gave it back to her. She was probably rummaging through her house, found a check (again, because a cashed check would've been taken at time of cashing) and thought to herself, "Wow, here is a check. Woohoo, let me go cash it." I think anyone would do that, right?

She probably cashed it at the Dunkin Donut's the first time and never put it in the drawer. She waited a few months after not working there any longer and took it somewhere else to cash it. She thought she had a sure thing.

Now that it's possible to make deposits directly from your smartphone, I can see this becoming more and more of an issue since the paper check stays in your possession.
