Boil alert in effect for portions of Austintown and Canfield townships

Published: Mon, April 28, 2014 @ 10:51 a.m.

Due to the Boil Alert issued by City of Youngstown Water Department, residents of Austintown and Canfield Townships who are customers of the City of Youngstown Water Department must provide a potable source of water for all facets of water usage until further notice. A potable source of water is defined as water of sufficiently high quality that can be consumed or used without risk of immediate or long term harm.

To ensure safety, residents must use bottled water or must boil their water, bringing it to a boil for at least one minute. Potable water must be used for hand washing, drinking, cooking, making ice, and washing dishes until further notice. Hand sanitizers are not recommended as a safe alternative to washing hands with soap and warm water.

Guidelines for residents on what to do when an interruption of potable water occurs can be found on our website at http://www.mahoninghealth.org/boil-water-alert-information/

Can't the water department have a simple message alerting the public that the water is being turned off, is limited, or whatever. People shouldn't have to be on the phone for hours trying to find out whats going on.
Even a message on the tv screen.
After all they are a service provider and as such are accountable to their customers.
