Boys basketball team takes tournaments
The Backyard Ballers, a local sixth-grade AAU basketball team coached by Dwayne Wilson of Poland and assisted by John Ryan of Boardman, recently won its fourth straight tournament. So far, theteam has won the Wadsworth, Hubbard, Youngstown and Garfield Heights tournaments. They have a record of 23-2. Team members are Vince Armeni (St. Christine’s), Chris Brooks (South Range), Michael Cougras (Poland), Tommy Fryda (Boardman), Reese Leone (West Branch), Carson Ryan (Struthers), Jared Lesko (Struthers), Zac Ryan (Boardman) and Dante DiGentano (St. Charles).
Lady Falcons dominate tournament
The Austintown Lady Falcons softball team traveled to Myrtle Beach over Spring Break (April 14-18) and defeated Priceville, Ala. 3-0; Elmira, N.Y. 5-4; Wesleyan Christian, N.C. 2-1; South County, Va. 1-0; and James Madison, Va. 7-6. They finished 5-0 and won the Myrtle Beach’s Grand Strand Classic tournament.
Festival run to be June 5
Runners and fitness joggers, take note of the annual Immaculate Heart of Mary festival 5K fun run, which will take place June 5 at 7 p.m. There will be a short 1/4 mile childrens run that will start a few minutes before the 5K. Entry forms can be printed at www.ihmfestival5k.webs.com. The run will start in front of the school, located at 4490 Norquest Blvd. in Austintown. The advance entry fee is $13 and the race day entry is $15. There is no entry fee for the childrens run. There will be race day registration beginning at 5 p.m. in front of the school.
Volleyball camps to be in June
The Austintown Fitch volleyball team will be hosting a fifth- and sixth-grade volleyball camp June 12 and 13 and a seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball camp June 18-20. For more information, contact Head Coach Steve Mohr by email at email@example.com,
Fitch basketball to host golf outing
The Austintown Fitch boys’ basketball program will be hosting a golf outing on Aug. 2 at the Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course in Lake Milton. There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. It will be a four-person Scramble. The cost of the event is $65 per person or $260 per team. The entry fee will include the 18-hole green fee with a riding cart, food and beverage. Those that pre-register by July 1 will also receive nine free holes of golf. The cost to sponsor the event is $100 per hole. All proceeds for this event benefit the Austintown Fitch boys’ basketball program.
