Mahoning commissioner: Don't hire director until probe ends

Published: Mon, April 14, 2014 @ 11:28 p.m.

AUSTINTOWN — A Mahoning County commissioner renewed her call for the county Board of Developmental Disabilities to defer the hiring of a new superintendent until it fully investigates complaints the commissioners have received.

The comments by Commissioner Carol Rimedio-Righetti at tonight’s DD board meeting followed an hourlong executive session Thursday between members of the DD board and the county commissioners.

In their Wednesday notice announcing that session, the county commissioners asked the DD board to “refrain from hiring a replacement director” until the board investigates and addresses complaints the commissioners have received.

In the letter, the commissioners said the complaints concern “allegations against the former director, Larry Duck, and some current employees of the board alleging mistreatment of employees and clients.”

The commissioners’ letter did not cite any specific allegations made in the complaints, and Righetti declined to elaborate this evening.

this sounds like someone's not playing political ball with the Commissioners why it is that Carol is the only commissioners showing up anywhere. could this be personal in some way to her. could she be using her seat as commissioners to be a bully. Didn't we the taxpayers in Mahoning County already paid for some sort of a investigation that showed absolutely nothing from what we've been told. When is this going to stop. Carol runs around spending our money like its her personal purse .Carol stop shopping on the taxpayers money

Here we go again. You've accused Supt Duck of being unethical - the Ethics Committee said NO WRONGDOING. Then, you "hand picked" 40 people for the survey - most employees questioned worked at MCBDD over 12 years, love their job & would recommend working there to a friend. Obviously, Supt Duck did a great job making excellent working conditions for over 300 employees; that's a feat in itself. Now, you've come up with "accusations of mistreatment" but, of course, no details or proof of anything improper. What's next? If I were Mr. Duck, I'd hire the best lawyer and sue not only the Board but also the Commissioners for all of their unsubstantiated accusations. Obviously, they are trying to get media attention off of them & their improper treatment towards Mr. Duck and trying to make him look bad instead. Not only is that not working; it's making the Board & Commissioners look like the idiots that they are.

Who did the "survey"? McNally's and Righetti's pal Livengood.

And what good was that survey?

your analogy is a bit flawed the taxpayers are the dog that wags the tail not the commissioners!!!!
And since you think you understand oversight and governing bodies. Answer this question. What was the outcome of the already completed investigation. Which was not done by a local politician with a personal agenda but by a professional agency that also has oversight authority which trumps the commissioners oversight authority. An agency that didn't have some sort of personal agenda ??
once again did you need to be reminded that the commissioners are a governing body that report to the taxpayers in what they're spending there needs to be a good reason to be wasting peoples valuable time that could be put towards service for individuals with disabilities instead of fighting bogus claims made up by politicians with agendas
