Blood-type diet

BOARDMAN

Dr. Ted Suzelis will present a free seminar, “Blood Type Diet Meal Prep,” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Centre in South Bridge West, behind Second Sole, at 755 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite D-3.

The seminar will provide information on how to succeed with a blood-type diet. Admission is free, but reservations are required.

Help Hotline grant

YOUNGSTOWN

Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. received a $5,000 grant from the Home Savings Charitable Foundation for the 24/7 Crisis Hotline Program, according to a Help Hotline news release.

Help Hotline received 202,084 calls in fiscal year 2012-13. Through this funding, Help Hotline will continue its mission of providing crisis intervention, suicide prevention and information and referral services for citizens in the community.

Help Hotline may be contacted by dialing 2-1-1.

Program extended

YOUNGSTOWN

The Home Energy Assistance Program Winter Crisis Program was extended by the Ohio Development Services Agency until next Tuesday.

Those who are threatened with gas or electric disconnection, are already disconnected, or if their bulk fuel contains 35 percent or less of its capacity are encouraged to apply.

MYCAP accepts appointments at their Youngstown and Sebring offices. Residents must call and make an appointment at the MYCAP Youngstown office by calling 330-747-7921, ext. 1100. Residents in western Mahoning County may call the MYCAP Western Mahoning County office at 330-938-6166.

Heart program

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The Dean Ornish Program For Reversing Heart Disease at Jameson Hospital will offer its Evening Spectrum Program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday from April 23 through May 28 at Jameson North Campus Dining Area, 1211 Wilmington Ave.

This six-week lifestyle improvement program is designed to impact heart disease and the risk factors for heart disease, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity and family history.

Enrollment is suggested by April 18 by calling Lori Brothers at 724-656-4660. A nominal fee is charged for non-Highmark Insurance members.

SlimDown program

SlimDown, a six-week weight-management program that focuses on lifestyle changes in food, activities and behaviors, will be led by Humility of Mary Heath Partners-registered dietitians trained in adult weight management.

In Trumbull County, classes will be offered from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays starting April 30 and through June 4 at St. Joe’s at the Mall, located behind Sears, at Eastwood Mall, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles.

In Mahoning County, they will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, starting May 1 and through June 5 in Community Room 2 of the Davis YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman. Cost is $40 for new participants and $20 for repeat participants.

To register, visit www.HMpartners.org and select Events, choose the start date of the program you want to register for and click the “Register Now!” bar.

Registration deadline is one week before each program begins. There will be no registration at the door.
