Suspicious fire destroys Girard house

Published: Mon, April 7, 2014 @ 12:58 p.m.

GIRARD

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating a suspicious house fire at 349 N. Davis St. that started shortly after 10 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters responded to the fire — which began in the southwest corner of the house, in a back bedroom — not long after receiving the first call at 10:12 a.m., said Fire Chief Kenneth Bornemiss. The house is “basically a total loss,” he added, estimating the damage at about $30,000.

No one was in the house at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Not long is a relative term. Not long to me is less than 5 minutes. Not long to somebody else could be 20-30 minutes. As chief you would think he would be a little more specific.

billdog1...The Chief was referring to the time it took to "respond," not the on scene"arrival" time! Hmm..
Hey, that's right, he didn't mention if the house had already burnt to the ground by the time the first engine, arrived, or, how long it took for the Fire Dept. to knock down the fire, or, if it just burned itself out by the time they arrived.
He may be a good Fire Chief, but, a bad PR Spokesperson.
